Before There Were Movies, There Were (Flip)Books
The Western Front art gallery in Vancouver is currently showing an International Flipbook Festival in celebration of “hand-powered cinema”. The exhibition features over one hundred flipbooks from artists throughout Europe and North America. Think of it as “a film festival without the film”, as each of the flipbooks are placed into one of four categories: Live Action, Animation, Experimental, and Documentary.
