À la Mode

June 25, 2008

I recieved an email last night with the shocking news that my style and design inspiration, the cutting-edge Parisian boutique Colette, is taking a trip this fall to NYC to pair up with The Gap. As part of the collaboration, Colette will set up a pop-up shop inside a Gap store in Manhattan. Colette and The Gap will team up with yet-to-be-named major European designers on a limited edition line of clothing that will be available for sale for one week only as of September 5th.

I was once a Gap kid myself, but that was when I was growing up in the suburbs and all the others kids were wearing Northern Getway (a now defunct kid’s clothing line). Turns out however, it’s not the first time Colette and The Gap have worked together. In 2006, Colette presented an art show entitled “Individuals” that featured Gap ads by famous photographers such as Herb Ritts and Annie Lebovitz. Presenting ads as art is a somewhat avant garde idea, but Ritts and Lebovitz are hardly very cutting edge these days. N’est-ce pas?
